Too long without music. We need something to make us all happy again!
    How about some uplifting Archive?
I discovered this yesterday since it is used in the trailer for Cyberpunk, can't get it out of my head since then (even though I don't like its use in the trailer :p)

Ok, no, it's not really uplifting. Sorry.
How about some Little Dragon? Slightly trippy, great text. Lead singer worked with Gorillaz as well, so you might be familiar with her voice :)

Now, for Omni: There is good Pop and there is good popular music. Gorillaz were in the chart some time, at least over here in Germany. And whenever my favourite German rock band (Die Ärzte) brings out a new album, it charts :)

Funny, I had the same reaction when I saw that trailer. Some of their other songs are also pretty sweet (but all kinda dark).

Here have some Quebec rap because why not :p

Three random videos from my YouTube favourites:

You'll want to start the third at :44, because the intro is annoying as hell.

You can't say that all pop music is bad, simply because all pop music isn't even the same genre.

Let me list you some pop starts, to illiustrate that their music spans genres:

The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, The Cars, Liberace, The Ramones, U2, Madonna, The Clash, Boy George, Glen Campbell, Cher, The Rolling Stones, Paul Simon (with and without Garfunkel), Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga,

You explain to me how all of that music is the same thing, then maybe I can accept that all pop music is one thing or the other (other than popular).

This is what I use now.

(I know we discussed it via PM, I am just spitting it out for others to read.)

Unfortunately it is hit and miss on other nations. The servers work, but half of them block VPNs. (This fluctuates daily.)

Well, it depends on whether we go by the "how the music sounds" definition or by the "is it on playlists" one.

I happen to listen to "pop" music occasionally, and I know that the catchy songs which are pop music because of the way they sound can be nice to listen to. Of course, I still loathe whatever crud is being thrown on the playlists, because I like for the music I listen to to have lyrics which make sense and are not verbal garbage (which is why "pop" music I happen to listen to consists, for the most part, of remixes or game/visual novel openings/endings).

Some pop music is decent, purely by virtue of having a not-bad voice + not-bad instrumental + catchy rhythm.

One thing I will say -- I don't choose to listen to most pop music of the last 15 years or so. I won't say that it's all bad, it's just not my taste. I prefer listening to my classic rock and folk (and modern folk) and blues and classic r&b, and so on. Every so often a group comes a long that I like enough to listen to more than a song or two of (Black Keys most recently, though some of their stuff sounds close to being plagiarized). But you can tell by what I post in this thread, that I mostly go for the older stuff.

But I no longer claim that what I like is better than the modern stuff, mostly because I know that's just personal taste. Plus, if you look at the crap that got played on the radio in my day, very little of it was good enough to survive the years, so what you hear (mostly) now are proven classics -- the best of the best. Some of them are songs that became prototypes for everything that came after.

But you have to admit that some of the music you hear have horrible or clicheed or meaningless or unintelligible lyrics or horribly derivative tunes and rhythms, or the singer can't carry a tune without an auto-tune device, and so on. But that's as it always has been. That's the stuff that you hope doesn't get perpetuated for the next generation. But it always does in some form.

Man, there sure is a lack of music in the music thread and a lot of text ;)
Not a rule but personal suggestion: post a song for content along your discussions would be cool!

Also to anyone with trouble viewing videos from other countries than the US, try https://hidemyass.com/, you just put your link and it usually works.

In other news, drum 'n bass has taken over my life.

I think I'm going to comply now. And because the first track you posted has a Touhou-themed background instead of something generic, here are a few Touhou-related remixes (the genre of music mattering not; it matters that they do sound nice, or at least I think they do):

If there's anything Touhou is good for (outside of satisfying masochistic urges of hapless players), it is easily finding good music.

I've mentioned before (I forget which thread) that I love HBO's series "Treme". One of the reasons I love it is the music, and it's introduced me to a lot of music that I might never have discovered on my own. The music is actually intrinsic to many of the various stories, but they don't often play full versions. I did include one Dr. John song in full, though. If you can find some full versions, feel free to post them, or just enjoy them on your own.

-- this is just a compilation of clips, but it should give you a taste of some of the variety of music that gets played.

/edit BTW, there are albums available for both the first and second seasons of the show, that include full versions, but I can't post those, of course.
