    Ah, I found the problem...I took out the impact animation and that broke it. Apparently you have to have the impact animation. I put it back in and it's fine now.

    Dratini is nearly done, except that I haven't been able to get the confusion effect on Outrage to work. The buff is triggering correctly and showing up in the buff spot just fine, but the trigger to make you hit yourself isn't triggering. All the other skills are working fine, it's just this one buff, so once this is fixed I'll launch the updated version of the mod.

    Code:
            <spell name="You hurt yourself in confusion!" type="self" >
                <effect type="damage" crushing="10" />
            </spell>

        <spell name="Confused" type="self" >
            <buff useTimer="0" removable="0" allowstacking="0" stacksize="1" attacks="3" icon="skills/confused64.png" smallicon="skills/confused32.png" >
                <targetHitEffectBuff percentage="50" name="You hurt yourself in confusion!" />
            </buff>
            <description text="You are confused!" />
        </spell>
    XML checks out in the XML-checker thing, but I guess something must be missing. See anything obvious?

    Put affectsCaster="1" in the damage line of the 'hurt yourself' spell. I believe the player is immune to his own spells by default. You may also want to make it attack="1" so that it scales with your melee damage. :)

    Ah, thanks! Running fine now. Here's the updated version! Hopefully it's acceptably balanced.

    Now how do I change the title of the thread?

    Edit your first post?

    I'm gonna wait on the new version until I either die or complete my current GRPD run, because at least one of my saves has been invalidated by removing a skill that I wasn't even using.

    I can change it, what do you want me to change it to?

    "Dratini" needs to be added after "Magikarp". So: "Pokémon skills: Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Magikarp, Dratini"

    I finally did it.

    I managed to evolve into Gyarados.

    Suddenly my mage/rogue is dealing upwards of 40 damage with his melee attacks. I can't wait to see what the actual abilities are like.

    Best part is, the level-up descriptor was "Oh Snap".

    Okay, uh, I'm actually kinda worried that Gyarados's skills may not be strong enough.

    See, I used Hyper Beam on a Mushy, and it took less than half its health in damage.

    Given how fast those things have been dropping, I'm fairly certain I'm dealing more damage than that with just my basic melee attack. As a mage whose only warrior skill is Magikarp.

    Dragon Rage seems to be working fairly well. The splash damage is kinda weak (it's about as powerful as the first Promethean skill) but the monsters at the epicenter have been regularly dropping down to 10% of their HP.

    I have Hyper Beam at 20 + 0.6x damage, plus digging. That is pretty low, I suppose, considering.

    I think the plan is to wait until the 1.0.10 patch is out (since it's almost out, for reals now) and then have it scale with warrior stats instead of with :magic_power:. +1 damage per :crit: should be reasonable. And I think the area damage from Dragon Rage should scale with :haywire:. (I feel like those stats represent how angry Gyarados is.)

    That wouldn't fit thematically with Hyper Beam as it is a special attack.

    A very cool thing to do might be for hyper beam to inflict an unresistable anti-magic field on the caster for one turn, but make it very powerful, scaling off :magic_power:.

    No, make it an irresistible total paralysis field. Apply a debuff that prevents casting and subtracts 100 from your melee attack for one turn.

    New version's up.
    • Applied custom damage scaling to Charmander, Squirtle, and Magikarp. Their attacks now scale with melee stats--or at least stats that don't get dropped by melee armor.
    • Evolving into Wartortle and Blastoise now adds :magic_resist:. Blastoise is no slouch in the special defense department either.
    • Evolving into Gyarados now gives even more :crit: and :haywire: because if there's one thing Gyarados does best, it's going haywire.
    • Added a couple extra points of :crit: to the evolutions for Charmander. Everyone loves crits.
    • Buffed the damage on Bulbasaur's spells because they kind of sucked.
    • Rage now requires 1 mana every 10 turns instead of every 4.
    • Vine Whip now has a 50% chance to snare instead of 33%. Although now I think I should probably just make it 100% since they'll resist it sometimes anyway.
    • I probably also made some other changes that I forgot about.

    banjo2E and Essence like this.

    It would be possible to do a total conversion mod and turn Dredmor into a Pokemon Roguelike.

    ...Hundreds of new skills, tons of new items and monsters, but...yeah, holy shit, I guess you're right, huh?

    Been running Dratini on my EEPD random-skills gish, and I'm not entirely sure I like it.

    Dratini seems for all intents and purposes to be designed as a gish build, but I'm not sure I like it that much.

    Wrap's a nice melee attack boost for low levels, but I took it off my bar ages ago and don't really miss it. I suppose I should probably try putting it back on, now that my attacks no longer one-shot things, but..eh.

    Twister doesn't seem to do a whole lot. It's an OK AoE, and I like how the cone shape alters depending on where you target, but it's at most a nuisance, at least to high-level monsters.

    Thunder Wave's hit and miss. Low-cost AoE paralysis is nice, but it gets resisted half the time.

    I don't use Dragon Dance at all. Sure, it's free, and stacks 6 times, but it only adds one point to the three stats it effects, and expires fast enough that maintaining a full stack requires you give up about 1/6 of your turns. Which, since it requires more points as the entire Berserk tree, is kind of pathetic.

    Outrage is amazing. Confusion's pretty gimp, I've never even noticed it because my resistances and Armor Absorption way more than cover it. BUT, it lets me spam Outrage, which is easily the best skill in the tree, doing consistently more damage than my melee attack on each tick, so...

    Dragon Rage is all right, but it really doesn't do a whole lot of damage. After casting it twice in a row at full power (which I can do because the debuff takes a turn to kick in) I can maybe kill the monsters at its epicenter half the time. The rest of the radius takes damage comparable to Twister. Given the crippling (-10 :magic_power: ) debuff each rank inflicts, this thing should really be more potent.

    Also, I've got Bulbasaur on this bar, but haven't put many points in it so far. What I can tell you is, Vine Whip is godly, it does nearly as much damage as my melee attack when it isn't resisted, and when it is resisted it still does as much damage as Twister ([i[hint hint[/i]). Which, for what's basically a ranged melee attack that requires no points to work, is pretty good. Leech Seed is pathetic, it gets resisted all the time (seriously, I've never had a successful cast ever, though to be fair I didn't start using it until like, DL 10) and for some reason its heal effect is also resistable which means it's useless as a heal and that's supposed to be its main purpose.
