The shove spell is *very* useful though. The damage can pull you through the early game and the knockback is still great late game.

My last character was a mage who ended up using Narcosomatic Induction and Psychokinetic Shove a lot. Like, through dungeon level 6 a lot. It took upwards of 15 casts to kill monsters at that level with it (getting 7-9 damage per cast, each of which cost 1MP), but the only other damaging spells I had either sucked down my health (necro with fairly high magic power = dangerous feedback) or were too expensive MP-wise (Golden Ratio curse, at 20MP). It was tedious. Nothing could really hurt me unless I got lazy, since both spells lock things down very effectively, but killing monsters took ages.

On the flipside, Shove is your best friend for zoos. Keep the monsters pushed back far enough away and they won't cast spells on you, and eventually you'll poke a hole big enough to toss a squid bolt into. Even without the squid bolt, though, 1MP to hit 7+ monsters for 6-7 damage and keep them from getting closer is a safe and pretty effective way of dealing with zoos.

what kind of Magic Power do you need to hit that 6-7 damage mark with Shove?

Per the wiki, the damage multiplier on magic power is .25 for Shove, so to get 6 damage you'd need to have 24. Given what Slayn says (I don't now remember my own stats) and the fact that another stat on the wiki for psionics was wrong (crystal healing heals 4HP per crystal, not 5), I'd guess this is inaccurate for 1.0.5.

I think it does blasting damage though, which means armor reduces it. (Yellow numbers = blasting damage?) That could be why it's doing less than the wiki says.

I was just curious of a general ballpark figure; getting up to 30 Magic Power to achieve the 6-7 damage Shove is pretty doable unless you get horrible gear RNG. I really need to try my tried-and-true Psionic/Promethian/Blood Mage in 1.0.5. Maybe tomorrow.
