I'm having the exact same problem, melee power locked at 1 and armour absorption at 4 max (It'll go down when I take off items, but it won't go up when I put them back on or get status effects that boost it). I'm using a Mac OS X Lion. Not sure how to upload my save, but any help is appreciated.
